August 10, 2005. A memorial was mounted not far from the Andriyashivka Village in honour to the 1st Anniversary of the Students’ Events
A memorial in honour to the 1st Anniversary of the students’ events was mounted August 10, 2005 on the boundary of Sumy and Poltava Regions (not far from the Romny Region village Andriyashivka).
This locality was chosen, because just here August 6, 2004 the event that had broken the flow of history concerning the joining of Sumy universities took place.
There was made an endeavor to catch the participants of the walking-tour to Kyiv by force with the help of militia and other state emergency forces ( 200 militiamen against 40 students).
A part of participants was detained and sent to the regional department of internal affairs in Romny and Nedrygailiv. The detainment was carrying out with the rude violation of the Ukrainian legislation (including beating with canes!). It fell not only to the share of students and their parents, but also to the lot of deputies who defended them (V. Kyrylenko, S. Klochko, L. Chaikina) and even of journalists.
Another part of students succeeded to escape and to continue their started way to Kyiv. Beating their way through the corn fields, brushwood and small villages, without having any warm clothing, any sleeping-bag, any bit of bread , - nevertheless they had held out and had shown to everybody that they would not go back a step from their aim.
Students, parents and everybody who joined them hed out and got their victory:
August 10, 2004 the President abolished his act concerning the universities’ amalgamation.
And all of them got one more important thing. It is not FREEDOM, they had it and they have not given it away. But they (and perhaps everybody) have got a BELIEF in that thing that aim whichever unreal it seemed can be reached. The aim only must be generous!
Everyone who was here by the grand opening of the memorial remembered the past events with tears on his eyes.
Oleg Medunytsya, Sergiy Klochko, Iryna Merkun, Leonid Mel’nyk, Lyudmyla Syverina, Volodymyr Chepyk appeared with their welcoming speech.
A right to open the memorial was given to the students. Iryna Merkun showed again her talent to organize – a cloth that covered the memorial was been taking off by all students together.
And then there was porridge from a dixy...And the way home full of songs.

How Great It is That We Gathered Here All Today

A Song About Mother

Our General Aim
Ще свічка наша не згоріла,
Ще наша молодість при нас,
А те, чи варте наше діло —
То скажуть люди й скаже час.
Our Motherland
Україно, Україно, після далечі доріг
Вірне серце твого сина я кладу тобі до ніг!
