August 31, 2004 – Studying year beginning. Celebration again.

August 31, 2004 was the day full of events.

The meeting of the SSU Scientific Council took place at 11a.m. Then the SSU staff gathered in the assembly hall for a traditional working meeting. The floor was given to prof. Anatoly Vasylyev, acting rector, prof. Mykola Volkov, acting 1-st vice-rector, Leonid Melnyk, head of the economics chair, Lydmyla Ostrivna, head of the independent trade-union “Volya”, Galyna Lytvynenko, head of the foreign languages chair.

At 5 p.m. the freshmen were “ordained” students in front of the SSU central building. This year the show was particularly pleasant. The freshmen were welcomed to the Sumy STATE University. And though the square wasn’t decorated so solemnly as last year, noone paid attention to that. It were the students whose presence, smiles and sometimes tears decorated the show.

Among the people who greeted the freshmen were prof. Anatoly Vasylyev, acting rector, prof. Mykola Volkov, acting vice-rector, V.O. Kolesnyk, rector of the B. Khmelnysky Military Institute of Artillery, Iryna Merkun, student rector, Leonid Melnyk, head of the economics chair.

The official part was traditional – the freshmen parade with SSU flags, setting symbolic fire of knowledge, congratulations and wishes, contests and entertainment show.

The disco began after the official part within a warm and positive atmosphere. And the fireworks ended the show.
