Medical Faculty Branch of the SSU Library

The branch of the library is opened 10 hours a day and 5 hours a day on Saturdays for comfortable and more effective use of library stock. The services of the library exchange system and reading room are organized differentially: according to categories of readers and kinds of books, in case of literature lacking library gives services through the inter-library exchange system.

Today 130-thousand fund of scientific and educational aids for is available for readers. 90 titles of scientific journals are received (taken in) annually. Since June 1996 the library has been receiving abstracts of theses for academic degrees. Reference and foreign literature is widely represented. Works of the faculty scientists, such as monographs, materials of international conferencies which have been carried out at medical faculty including materials of the student scientific conferencies, collections of works, textbooks, over 50 thousand methodical aids, and also articles from periodicals. The library fund is replenished with 3 thousand copies annually. Literature fund have been formed in the period of 1903-2001. Extra information - search service is presented as system of catalogues and card indices . With the help of qualified bibliographers a reader can easily find the necessary literature, scientific works, the author of a book, magazine articles and documents.

Extra information – bibliographical service has alphabetical, systematical and subject catalogues, alphabetical and systematical card indices of dissertation abstracts, systematical card indices of articles, card index of the regional geography, card indices of foreign literature, methodical aids and works of the faculty collaborators. Over 4 thousand cards are received and over 11 thousand registered to catalogues annually. The collaborators of the library make daily about 70 oral and 10 written orders of the thematic, factual and adress character.

Informational services of subscribers are being carried out in the procedure of selective distribution of the information according to the registered themes for individual and collective subscribers. The library makes annotated informational and bibliographical lists, bibliographical showings and organizes different book and illustrative exhibitions, literature reviews and thematic meetings.

Insufficient book supply and financing of libraries caused the decrease of entries. The alternative sources of acquisition are searched for.

The SSU library is the participant of the consortium of Ukrainian libraries “Electronic Editions”. The publishing house “Springer” with support of the "Vidrodzhennya" fund gave a free possibility to use 400 titles of the full texts from magazines, including medical ones.

The library activity is not limited to the function of informational intermediary. The arrangements aimed at inculcating love to a book, to cultivate students conviction that the book remains the basis of culture and education in the world of mass media.
