Technical Thermophysics Chair (TTP)
General Information
The TTP chair was founded in 1981 (from 1981 till 2001 it was named as the Refrigerating and Compressor Machines chair).
More than 1000 mechanical engineers graduated from the chair.
The chair has a licence of the 4-th accreditation level; it trains specialists of higher education according to a 3-level system:
- Bachelor degree in specialty 6.0905 “Power Engineering” – 4-year apprenticeship;
- Specialist degree in specialties 7.090508 “Compressors, Pneumatic and Vacuum Units” and 7.090520 “Refrigerating Machinery and Units” – 5-year apprenticeship;
- Master degree in the same specialties (8.090508 and 8.090520) – 5-6-year apprenticeship.
There functions a post graduate course with internal and external forms of education and also the only one in Ukraine Specialized Theses Defense Council in specialty 05.05.15 – “Vacuum and Compressor Equipment”.
Chair Staff
Members of the chair staff are: 2 professors (Doctors of technical sciences), 8 assistant professors (Candidates of technical sciences).
Students also study at the branch of the chair at the joint-stock company “Sumy Frunze NPO”.
The chair is equipped with:
- Two laboratories “Thermoequipment” and “Refrigerating and Compressor Machinery” which are equipped with devices and units, necessary for carrying out researches in all thermotechnical disciplines, which are taught at the SSU, and also for performing the laboratory works in the specialties;
- Lecture-room equipped with prototypes, exhibits and models of vacuum and refrigerating machinery.
The SSU on the basis of the Technical Thermophysics Chair is a participant of the “Institute of monocrystal” technological park in the field “Creation of the multilevel energy-saving technology for increasing the chemical and machine building enterprises energy efficiency”.
The SSU academic council has recommended to organize the Institute of thermotechnics and thermomechanics of power-consuming industries and machines on the basis of the chair.
Research Activity
Academicians, scientific associates, students and post-graduate students take part in research activity. The trends of the TTP chair are the following:
Compressor Systems
- Improvement of the thermogas dynamic calculation and designing of centrifugal compressors.
- Increasing of the centrifugal compressor efficiency.
- Improvement of methods of the centrifugal compressor fixed elements (blade diffuser and reciprocal directing devices) designing.
- Scientific background to the creation of the multipurpose screw compressor on 3-5 gas media.
- Elaboration of the method of the screw compressor capability calculation.
- Experimental and calculation investigations of liquid ring compressors.
- Investigation of the NJ100kW vortex compressors.
Refrigerating Machinery and Thermal Pumps
- Scientific background to the creation of the universal multipurpose refrigerating and thermal pump unit for several working substances.
- Scientific background to the open-type thermotransformer usage and its task solution.
- The elaboration of the method of the food handling vacuum systems calculation.
- Scientific-technical background to the thermal pump units usage in manufacturing processes and heat supplying.
Power Engineering and Energy Saving
- The thermodynamic analysis of the steam-and-gas power plants.
- Elaboration of the energy and technological analysis methods for the power-consuming industries and machine manufacturing processes.
- Elaboration of the 3-level energy saving systems for enterprises of different branches.
- Primary resource energy saving systems.
- 3-rd level energy saving systems with the electricity generation while conducting manufacturing processes.
- Secondary resource saving systems.
- Investigation of the NJ500kW turbo-expanders and pneumodrives on the basis of vortex and jet-stream turbines.
Educational Process
34 disciplines are taught by the chair stuff, including:
- All thermotechnical disciplines for Bachelor degree in specialty 6.0905 “Power Engineering” and “Engineering Mechanics”.
- All special disciplines for Specialist and Master degrees in specialties 7.090508 “Compressors, Pneumatic and Vacuum Units” and 7.090520 “Refrigerating Machinery and Units”.
Fields of Graduates’ Application
The TTP chair graduates who received Specialist degree may work for design and planning offices, research organizations and academic institutes, departments of various enterprises, companies and organizations which scope of activity deals with scientific researches, elaboration of new technologies including energy saving ones, production and exploitation of refrigerating, compressor and vacuum equipment or pneumatic units.
