General Information

Chair staff: 2 professors, 1 assistant professor, 3 assistants, 1 clinical intern, 4 senior laboratory assistants. Head of the chair - Prof. Konstantin K. Vasiljev, Doctor of medical sciences;

The chair of social medicine, the organization of public health protection and the common hygiene has been created on December, 24, 1994.

Educational-Methodical Activity of the Chair

1-st, 3-rd, 4-th, 5-th, 6-th year students of medical faculty study at the chair. They study such disciplines as: “The history of medicine” (1-th year), “General hygiene” (3-rd, 4-th, 6-th year), "Social medicine and the organization of public health services" (4-th, 5-th year), “Rehabilitation and sports medicine” (4-th year), “Social medicine and economics of public health services” (6-th year).

Significant scientific-methodical work is being carried out at the chair; number of methodical instructions to practical classes has been published.

Modern technologies are applied in educational process: educational and supervising computer programs, a module-rating assessment system.

Students take part in university and republican Olympiads.

Members of the chair staff constantly take part in international scientific-methodical conferences which are organized by the SSU (2-nd in 1995, 3-rd in 1997, 4-th in 1999, 5-th in 2001).

Sphere of Scientific Interests of the Chair Staff

The theme “Influence of the adverse ecological factors on adults’ and children's health in Sumy region " is the basic scientific direction of the chair.

So, scientific interests of the common hygiene department, headed by Proff. A.G. Djachenko, concentrate around the influence of the environmental factors on the immune status and the character of the immunological reactions of an organism.

Recently the subject “The immune reaction on sharp intestinal infections" has been researched.

The current subject is the character of the immunopathalogical processes at sharp and chronic virus hepatitis. The immunophenotype and the molecular characteristics of the malignant lymphomas (Prof. A.G.Djachenko) are under research.

Scientific researches on problems of local medicine history of 19-20 centuries are also carried out at the chair.

Prof. K. Vasiljev has stated new directions of historical and medical researches:

1. Geography of centers of the local medical science development;
2. History of Ukrainian and Russian medicine of 1920 - 1930.

In 1997-1999 Proff. K.K. Vasiljev received the Saurus Grant.

In 1994 - 2002 about 200 scientific articles, among them 44 - in magazines, have been published by members of the social medicine, organization of public health services and general hygiene chair.

The results of scientific activity of the chair were reported at many scientific forums: the International congress on integrative anthropology (Ternopil, 1995.); 18-th (Riga, 1996.), 19-th (Vilnius - Kaunas, 1999) and 20-th (Tartu, 2001.) the Baltic conferences on the history of science; 35-th (Kos, 1996.) and 36-th (Tunis, 1998.) the International congresses on the history of medicine; Congress of the historians of medicine confederation (Moscow, 1998.), etc.

During the annual final scientific conferences of the SSU medical faculty the chair supervises the section of the preventive medicine (Head - Prof. K.K. Vasiljev).

The chair has a scientific cooperation with Karl-Sudhoff-Institut fur Geschichte der Medizin und der Naturwissenschaften - Leipzig University of Ukrainian - German and Russian - German connections in the field of medicine and pharmacy at the 19-th - the beginning of the 20-th centuries research.
