Russian Language Chair

General Information

Russian Language Chair was formed September 10, 1991 on the basis of the Ukrainian and Russian Language Section that was the part of the Foreign Languages Chair. Victor A. Zavgorodniy has been appointed the Head of the Chair and he heads it until now. The Chair gives the language preparation for the foreign students for their future studying in Sumy State University and other Ukrainian educational institutions.

Russian language teaching is provided by the eminently qualified Chair’s lecturers who have a wide school and academy experience. Among them there are 3 lecturers with the associate Professorship, candidates of philological science, 6 senior lecturers, 3 lecturers. The seniority is about 15 years on average.

Chair’s lecturers provide with the language preparation both the students of the preparatory department of the Foreign Citizens Faculty and the foreign students of the Medical, Engineering , Physical and Technical Faculty, Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty, Economic Faculty, Faculty of Humanities and also they teach Russian for the foreign post-graduates.

Russian Language Chair Lecturers undergo the retraining and the probation period on the basis of the Refresher Faculty attached to SSU, Sumy State Pedagogical University of A.S. Makarenko. Nearly a half number of lecturers worked on probation and retrained on the basis of the Refresher Institute attached to the National State University of T.G. Shevchenko, Vinnytsya Medical University, Russian Language Institute of O.S. Pushkin, Peoples Friendship University of P. Lumumba and so on.

At the Chair a great work concerning the creation of the modern methodical materials which would rather raise the Russian teaching level for the foreign students is realized. At the time of the Chair’s work 30 methodical guides, 13 educational and methodical manuals were published.

Quality monitoring of the knowledge, abilities and skills are carried out in accordance with the rating system which contributes to the study quality improvement by means of students’ systematic work during the semester.

Scientific Work

Chair’s lecturers take an active part in the international and University conferences of Ukraine and countries of Commonwealth of Independent States.

According to the results of scientific researches more than 80 reports have been made by Chair’s lecturers, above 130 publications among which there are about 90 articles and 30 theses have been issued.

With an aim of lecturers’ skill level’s raise the methodical and scientific seminars work constantly at the Chair.
