Chair “Resistance of Materials”
The Chair "Resistance of Materials" is headed by Ivan B. Karintsev, Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences.
The Chair provides such disciplines for engineering specialties as resistance of materials, resistance of materials with elements of building mechanics and applied mechanics. These disciplines are taught at three faculties of the university, and also at the Military Institute of Artillery and the Machine-building College. Besides for the students of the specialty “Dynamics and Durability” a special discipline "Hydroaeroelasticity" is taught.
At the Chair there are educational and laboratory base adequate to modern requirements.Apart from the standard equipment providing laboratory practical works on resistance of materials and applied mechanics there are many operating models and stands which widen the students' knowledge about the subjects they learn considerably.
For the most advanced students it is offered to solve tasks of the increasing difficulty which solution does not require only profound theoretical knowledge, but also originality of thinking. With this purpose the manual “The Selected Tasks in Resistance of Materials (from Experience of Student Olympiads)” by Karintsev I.B. is issued. It generalizes twenty years' experience of preparation and carrying out of student Olympiads at SSU. For the students of the specialty “Dynamics and Durability” Prof. I.B. Karintsev also issued the manual "Hydroaeroelasticity" which was the first educational edition in this sphere.
The main scientific direction of the Chair is connected with the creation of scientific bases for calculation and designing of bearing and transparent for light constructions which work in conditions of high pressure and temperatures. According to the results of the research works executed on economic agreement and state budgetary subjects, deep-water windows with transparent light disk elements made of an inorganic glass for use in the depth up to 6000 m., tight cable electric connections have been created and introduced. A line of original imitating high pressure stands is made for testing of deep-water equipment. These stands are successfully applied at the Institute of Durability Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv), the Scientific Research Institute "ATOLL" (Dubna, Russia) and other organizations. On the basis of the results of the engineering researches more than 120 proceedings, including 50 copyright certificates were published. In 1987 a 200-pages monograph “Bearing and Transparent Light Elements of Glass Constructions” was published together with collaborators of the Institute of Durability Problems in the National Àcademy of Science of Ukraine (G.S.Pisarenko, academician, K.K. Amelyanovich, Doctor of Engineering Sciences).
The new theme connected with constructional durability of elements made from composite materials with the structure defects is being developed at the Chair. Besides the theoretical researches devoted to the further development of the theory of multilayered shells with defects and the experimental testing of the obtained results are conducted.
2 professors, 3 assistant professors and 1 senior teacher are working at the Chair.
