Students
The students start their education at the chair in the 6th term but the chair pays attention to their studies achievements from the 1st term. There exist a tradition of meetings and talks between the lectures and the 1st year students. These meetings take place in the literature hall, the rooms and laboratories of the chair.
The students are involved into scientific research, Olympiads in the specialty are organized. The annual scientific-technical conferences of lecturers, post-graduate students and students are traditionally organized, they are followed by reports publication.
Masters' training at the chair was introduced in 1999. The students who get the Bachelor's degree enter the master’s studies according to their contest results. The master’s plan of the chair is 10-15% of Bachelors in the specialty. The students who did not get through the contest may start the master’s studies on the paid places. Such experienced assistant professors as O.I. Akilov, V.G. Yevtukhov, Y.O. Kvasov, O.I. Remnyov, O.U.Zakharkin who continue their scientific researches, train the future Masters. For ore than 10 years the students have been participating in the State round of the Olympiad in engineering techniques that takes place in Lugansk and Kramatorsk. The students of the chair usually take the first-places. The Ukrainian champion of 1996 M.U. Dumanchuk has already prepared for defense his thesis for Candidate's degree. In 2000 and 2001the SSU team in ET took the 1st team place among 25 teams which participated in the Olympiad. It proves the high quality of specialists' training.
But enumerating the present achievements one should not forget the former graduates who we can be proud of. They are O.I. Zakharov, Ph.D.(technical sciences), V.G. Yevtukhov, candidate of technical sciences, V.I.Savchuk, candidate of technical sciences, M.O. Kazban, candidate of technical sciences, O.I. Remnyov, candidate of technical sciences, V.L. Korotchenko, candidate of technical sciences, O.I. Karpishchenko, dean of the Economics Department, M.I. Sotnyk, President of the JSC "NEM", O.V. Pirogov, chief engineer of the atomic pumpbuilding plant, V.O. Rybalko, deputy chief engineer of the JSC "Sumy Frunze NPO" and others. In 1997 the citizen of Palestine Sabra Mustafa defended his diploma paper at the ETchair. The chair has always conducted the vocational guidance among the youth of educational establishments of Sumy and district centers. The chair of ET welcomes everyone who is interested in technics and technical sciences.
Research activity of the chair
The chair has been carrying out research work from the first years of foundation. The three principal scientific directions are:
- Quality increasing of details’ magnetic coating by means of bringing additional types of energy into the processing area by superfinish heads. O.V. Gryshkevych, assistant professor, candidate of technical sciences, was one of the project's directors. His leadership resulted in plenty of scientific elaborations, plenty of inventors certificates on inventions, thesis defense by present assistant professors of the chair – O.I. Akimov, V.G. Yevtukhov, V.I. Savchuk and by V.A.Osipov, Head of the SSU Scientific Research Sector. At the present time the project is headed by O.I.Akilov, assistant professor. In 2000 the results of the research work done under his guide were reported at the international conference in China. The superfinish heads, designed by these scientists, are applied at a lot of enterprises of the former Soviet Union and have the great economic effect.
- Creation of new technological processes and instruments. This trend at the chair was initiated by O.O. Toropov, assistant professor, candidate of technical sciences. A research laboratory, for a long time headed by the chair graduate O.F. Samardak, was established for realization of the project. In fact, almost the whole laboratory staff consisted of the chair graduates. There was the Student Scientific Society (SSS) functioning as the laboratory branch. The laboratory researches invented a series of instruments of a new type equipped with unified insets with cutting blades. The laboratory production is well known not only in Ukraine but abroad as well. Several contracts were concluded with some of the Bulgarian enterprises. The results of the research were presented in the Ph.D. thesis of P.V. Kushnirov, assistant professor, who continues working in this direction. The project also comprises the works of O.I. Remnyov, assistant professor, whose research project consists in designing of instruments and technologies of heat exchange apparatus tubes fixing in tube plates by means of the plastic deforming. The results are used at many enterprises. The technical solutions of G.I. Remnyuov are used in the production of automobile and tractor radiators in Sumy.
- Automatization of enterprise technical training. This scientific direction was established by O.U. Zakharkin, assistant professor, in 1981. The years under his direction resulted in researching of more than 20 scientific subjects in cooperation with the enterprises of Sumy, of the region and different cities of Russia. The project consisted in learning to handle new computer and office equipment, including the automatic machine "Orgtext - 2", computer EC 1022, the first personal computers "Elektronika DZ-24", SM 1810, SM 1634, IBM of different generations. The direction resulted in applying PCs in the educational process at the chair. Most programs used by the students were created by the researches. The results of the researches were presented in 2 monographs, in a lot of reports at the scientific-technical conferences in different cities of the former Soviet Union – Leningrad, Vladivostok, Sevastopol and others. ThePh.D. thesis of S.M. Illyashenko was defended on the basis of the research results. Nowadays the direction is one of the scientific work trends of the lecturers.
The branches of the chair
The first branch was organized in 1988 on the basisi of the NPAO Vnii kompressormash. It existed untill 2000. A lot of diploma projects were written on its base. From 1988 till 1994 the defence of all diploma projects took place on its territory.
After having introduced a new specialty "Electronic Engineering Techniques" in 1992 the opened its branch at the VO "SELMI". Later after the establishment of the chair of electronic engineering techniques at SSU the branch was directed by the chair.
In 2000 the chair opened its branch at the JSC "Nasosenergomash". In the same year the chair branch was established in Okhtyrka on the basis of the local JSC "Naftoprommash" in order to improve the work with students. This close cooperation of education and production has a positive impact on the academic process, improves the quality of industrial training, course and diploma projects on the ground of real production challenges.
The chair equipment
The chair of engineering techniques is situated in the T-building and has the general area of 1137,5 m2 , including the area of lecture-halls and student laboratories – 580 m2. Three lecture-halls are equipped with technical means of studying. From 1997/98 academic year students’ knowledge has been checked by means of computer tests. There is a room for post-graduate students and a research laboratory equipped with scientific devices. 5 laboratories of the chair (3 of which are designed for educational process) contain 28 cutters, including two modern machines with numerical (programmed) control (NPC). This stock of machines includes nearly all the types being from 3 till 15 years in use.
The chair is provided with 3 PCs (IBM) which are applied for scientific research and educational process.
