The Chair of General Chemistry
General Information
The Chair of General Chemistry was established in 1966. During its existence it was headed by A.M. Korol’, associate professor, candidate of technical sciences; Y.V. Khamsky, professor, doctor of chemical sciences, Y.O. Myrhorod, professor, doctor of chemical sciences; H.L. Zvyahintsev, professor, doctor of chemical sciences. Since 1997 the head of the chair has been S.Y. Lebedyev, associate professor, candidate of chemical sciences.
Structure
The chair teachers teach students of all faculties, apart from the Humanitarian faculty, at gymnasiums and lyceums of the region, at access courses. There are the following specialized laboratories at the chair:
- chemistry and general chemistry;
- physical chemistry;
- physical and colloid chemistry;
- organic chemistry;
- analytical chemistry;
- bio-, geochemistry;
- bioinorganic and bioorganic chemistry;
- general chemical technology;
- metals corrosion;
- physical and chemical analysis methods.
At present 8 lecturers and 7 assistants work at the chair.
The chair stuff:
- Serhiy Y. Lebedyev, candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor;
- Lydmyla M. Myronovych, doctor of chemical sciences, professor;
- Inesa H. Vorobyova, candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor;
- Olexiy P. Manzhos, candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor;
- Lyubov S. Manzhos, candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor;
- Larysa I. Marchenko, candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor;
- Tetyana V. Dychenko, senior lecturer;
- Yulia V. Litsman, assitant.
Scientific Activity
Teaching various chemical disciplines during quite a long time didn’t allow forming the unique scientific direction. For the last 20 years the chair has had the following scientific directions: physics and chemistry of heterogeneous balances in solutions, surface-active materials solutions chemistry, polymers and films made on their base, nitrogenated heterocycles chemistry.
Annually the scientific and technical conference of lecturers and students is held. About 15-20 reports are examined according to the results of experimental and review research of different chemical problems.
The lecturers of the chair publish annually 5- 10 articles and 15-20 report abstracts at various conferences.
Y.V. Litsman is finishing her thesis.
Studying process and Methodical Provision
Apart from teaching students of internal students, the chair trains the cadets of the artillery military institute, external students in Sumy and other Ukrainian cities, schoolchildren of the educational establishments that are included into Sumy State University complex.
The lecturers publish 10 – 15 items of methodical literature. The most significant books are:
- S.Y. Lebedyev. Chemisry in Definitions, Tables, Schemes. Matriculants’ Textbook, 1992.
- S.Y. Lebedyev. 100 Tasks in Chemistry for University Entrants, , 1993.
- S.Y. Lebedyev. Lectures Summary in Physical Chemistry,2001for Access Courses, 1997.
- L.I. Marchenko. Lectures Summary in General Chemistry for Access Courses, 1997.
- L.M. Myronovych. Lectures Summary in “Bioorganic Chemistry” Course, 1999.
- L.M. Myronovych. Lectures Summary “Substances Strucure. Analysis Spectral Methods” in “Physical and Colloid Chemistry”, 2002.
- L.I. Marchenko. Summary Lectures in “Chemistry” Course, 1-4 parts, 2000.
- L.I. Marchenko. Summary Lectures “Chemical Reactions Peculiarities” from “Chemistry” Course, 2001.
- S.Y. Lebedyev, A.P. Manzhos, L.I. Marchenko. Collected Tasks for Preparing for Chemical Contests, 2001.
- L.S. Manzhos.Summary Lectures in “Corrosion and Protection from it. Course” (3 parts), 2000-2004.
- A.P. Manzhos. Summary Lectures in “Chemistry Special Sections” Course on the Topic “Electrochemical Analysis Methods” (2 parts), 2002 – 2003.
The chair takes part in organization and holding region school contests in chemistry durinf the last decade. The region team with O.P. Manzhos and S.Y. Lebedyev’s help takes one of the first places in Ukraine. A lot of schoolchildren trained at the chair are now students of the famous universities of Russia and Ukraine.
Annually the students contest in general chemistry is organized at the chair. Winners take part in all-Ukrainian student contest. Andriy Homan was awarded the 1st degree diploma in 1999 and 2000.
